　　 2、 to make the best of, 充分利用什么?

　　 Supervisor Bill Postmus tried to make the best of it all in his invocation: Thank you for taking us out of the difficult times that we've had in the past, Lord.

　　原譯:行政官員比爾伯斯特默斯充分利用當前形勢在禱告中表示:感謝你是我們走出曾經有過的艱難時期,上帝。

　　改譯:縣管委會委員比爾伯斯特默斯在禱告中借機表示:上帝,感謝你使我們擺脫過去的艱難時期。

　　點評:原譯的問題就出在對短語make the best of的理解上。沒錯,它的意思是充分利用(時間、機會等),但并非充分利用當前形勢,而是充分利用禱告的機會,故改為借機。

　　其他翻譯要點:

　　 1、supervisor:如果不了解這個人,很難決定是行政官員還是縣管委會委員,可惜作者并沒有說到這個詞他是如何確定下來的。
