There is never a year without humanitarian crises. And wherever there are people in need, there are people who help them men and women coming together to ease suffering and bring hope. From Japan to Sudan, from Pakistan to the Horn of Africa, aid workers help people who have lost their homes, loved ones and sources of income.
沒有哪一年沒有人道主義危機。哪里有需要幫助的人，哪里就有幫助他們的人男女人道主義工作者攜手并肩，為人們減輕痛苦，帶來希望。從日本到蘇丹，從巴基斯坦到非洲之角，處處都有救援人員為失去家園、親人和收入來源的人們提供幫助。
These humanitarians often brave great danger, far from home. They work long hours, in the most difficult conditions. Their efforts save lives in conflict and natural disaster. They also draw the world closer together by reminding us that we are one family, sharing the same dreams for a peaceful planet, where all people can live in safety, and with dignity.
人道主義工作者往往冒著極大的危險，遠離家庭。他們在最困難的條件下長時間工作。他們的努力拯救了陷入沖突和遭受自然災害的人們的生命。他們還將世界更緊密地團結在一起，提醒我們，我們都是一家人，我們都向往一個所有人都能有尊嚴地生活在安全之中的和平的星球。
On World Humanitarian Day, we honour these aid workers and thank them for their dedication. And we pay tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan, Haiti and beyond. Too many have died, or suffered their own loss, in the course of duty. We pledge to do all we can to ensure the worlds humanitarians are kept safe to do their essential work.
值此世界人道主義日，我們向這些救援人員表示敬意，感謝他們的無私奉獻。我們向那些在阿富汗、海地和其他地方犧牲的人們致敬。太多的人在履行職責期間犧牲，或遭受個人損失。我們保證將竭盡全力，確保世界人道主義工作者能夠安全地從事他們的重要工作。
This is also a day to examine our own lives and consider what more we can do to help -- to reach out to people enduring conflict, disaster and hardship. Let those we honour today inspire us to start our own journey to make the world a better place and bring our human family more closely together.
在這一天，我們也要審視我們自己的生活，思考我們能夠做些什么以幫助那些經歷沖突、災難和困苦的人們。讓那些我們今天向其致敬的人道主義工作者激勵我們行動起來，將世界變得更美好，將我們人類大家庭更緊密地團結在一起。
小知識：
世界人道主義日：2003年8月19日，聯合國巴格達辦事處遭汽車zha彈襲擊，造成包括聯合國特使德梅洛在內的22人死亡，150多人受傷。為紀念在此次炸彈襲擊事件中獻身的工作人員，2008年12月，聯合國大會通過決議，決定將每年的8月19日定為世界人道主義日。旨在增強公眾對世界范圍的人道主義援助行動以及在這方面的國際合作的重要性的認識，同時向所有人道主義者、聯合國以及那些為促進人道主義事業發展而工作、為職責而獻出生命的工作人員致敬。
